Factory tinted window scratch repair12/13/2023 ![]() ![]() ![]() Maybe 5% over top if you want it it dark. To me I think the optimal setup would be factory privacy glass with 50% overtop of it for uv protection. I had a guy at a tint shop tell me that he thought factory glass was better and I guess I agree and that's what got me thinking. I'd like to here the pro tinter's side of things though and see which they think is better although I think I may already know the answer. Those as a consumer are basically the pro's and cons I see to each. You have to worry if the defroster will work when it fades or gets to where it needs redone and you have to pull it off the back glass on many cars. Most seem to have a small light gap or something of that sort. I've seen some good ones but they all seem to have something here or there I've yet to see a perfect tint job as in no contamination what so ever. Seems to fade over time even if a quality film Seems to scratch fairly easily even if a quality film Now as long as you use a quality film the pro's and cons as I see it to film areĬan be whichever darkness you choose and can be changed laterĬon's are basically what was listed above After the first few days the tint looked good, then at around 2 weeks. Thinking they did good work for being around so long, I took my brand new car there. Spray more water if needed, and squeegee again to remove all air bubbles. Cut the edges with a razor blade, trimming along the top edge first. Quickly squeegee out the air bubbles, starting at the center of the window and working out. ![]() The other con is that usually it's not on the front windows unless you got some custom made and that with aftermarket tint you can go a lot darker than most factory glass is. Posted Hey guys, I got my windows tinted at a local tint shop thats been around for 20 years. Spray the window with water, then peel the backing from the tint film and position it on the wet glass. Now the con's to it are as far as I know it doesn't offer the uv protection and heat rejection of film although I could be wrong here. How often do you see one that has faded or turned purple? You don't. Even good ones seem to usually have a bubble here or there if you look close enough. I know you can get film on sometimes with little contamination but I'm not sure I've ever seen it perfect. I know some windows you can file or shave but most windows don't get done that way vs factory tinted glass you don't have to worry about it you have no light gap at all. The factory glass is tinted all the way to the edge. How often do you see dyed glass have imperfections such as contamination? Light gaps? Anything of that nature? You don't. I'd like to get both sides of the story here.Īs a consumer I think the factory tinted privacy glass is far superior and here are my reasons.ĭoesn't scratch unless you scratch the glass which is a lot harder to do than to scratch the film. I'm curious to hear what the pro's in the industry think the pro's and con's to film vs the dyed windows that are the factory tint. ![]()
